New laptop

Post by [JiF]Beezer »

I will soon be on the market for a new laptop...there is $1,000 to spend I have a few in mind but are there any thoughts for a solid system for the price.
Its no gaming rig either basically the best normal laptop for the money(if that makes sense  )

Scale back a little on hardware if you have to and get an extended warranty.
You've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

In addition keep an eye out for the graphics card you get. If you are going with integrated graphics, see if it supports DVI output, some of the intel graphics do not.

I have played around with a few of the new Toshiba's that are under $1,000 and they are sweet. A couple of the ones I played with was just a regular everyday use type but would also run most of the new games, don't think it would handle Crysis but they had some nice specs to them. I had also looked at a few Acer's with some nice specs and ran pretty good. There was a couple of both the Toshiba's and Acer's that was 2Ghz with 2G ram and 17" wide screen for around $980 I think it was and I think they had the Nvidia 8400 in them and seen a couple with the ATI X1200.

I have a Toshiba 17" wide screen and I love it and it has run flawlessly for the 2 years I have had it so far.

I was thinking toshiba...I have always heard good things about them and want one myself. I'll go to best buy and see what they have
to offer as far as toshibas go and go from there.

Thanks for the input guys!!!

KellysHero is right on the mark with the warranty suggestion.

You lose the screen and that's potentially $400 right there. And those things can go at anytime. Try to go with an on-site warranty if you can, not mail in service. You don't want them playing mad scientist with your hard drive.

Good luck Beezer!
